Hello from NYC!

Will and I hopped on a plane to New York City Saturday night and have been thoroughly enjoying our time here! I’ve only been to the city once, so I wanted to pack in as many touristy things as possible.

Be on the lookout for a post in January all about my trip! For now, here’s a very blurry picture of me (age 15) of my first time visiting New York: bailey in NYC 2012

A College Kid’s Guide to Holiday Shopping

I try to do my holiday shopping year-round. I work a lot during the summer and tend to have a little extra money then, so for me that’s the ideal time to start getting Christmas presents. Another factor is the timing of University tests. Final exams happen right before Christmas and buying presents is the last thing I want to do after two weeks of exams. So not only am I short on money come December, I’m also short a few hundred brain cells and some patience (haha).

After two and a half years of college, I think I’ve got this Christmas shopping thing down pat. Here are my tips:

Make a list of everyone you need to buy presents for and brainstorm what you think they’d like. Keep this list with you (I save mine on Google Drive) so that when you’re passing a sale rack or have a coupon you know exactly what people might want.

Make an overall budget and a budget for each person.

Scout sales as early as possible. Nordstrom has their super discounted anniversary sale each fall. Macy’s has a half yearly sale. Lots of places have similar annual sales, you just have to scope them out.

Clearance bins are your friend. No one has to know you bought that super cute waffle knit sweater for 75% off. A brand new gift is a brand new gift after all, right?

Student discounts. There are more out there than you think. Here’s a list.

Still not sure what to do? Try making a gift. Knitting Hogwarts house scarves or Weasley sweaters is always a hit with friends. So are mason jar cookies.

Happy gift giving! Christmas at the Marshall's

Warby Parker Resort Collection Release

It’s no secret that I wear glasses. I got my first pair in sixth grade, and since then I’ve learned that glasses, like makeup and hair, can subtly influence your overall image while also being an integral part of your personality.

I love the of the glasses from Warby Parker. A lot of their frames (with the prescription lenses) are under $100!

I am so excited to announce their newest collection, Resort! The Resort Collection mixes rich acetates with hints of metal inlays and glimmering metallics. The unique outlines, delicate textures, and pops of glossy metal give the glasses a luxurious, high end feel.

I’m a sucker for a good tortoiseshell, and these frames are my absolute favorite! You can shop the rest of the prescription eyeglasses on their website, which you can find by clicking here.

The sunglasses in the Resort Collection are all so different that I can’t pick a favorite. I want them all! The Cleo sunglasses, the first photo shown below, remind me of a classic 1950’s beachgoer. On the other hand, the Wyatt sunglasses are more NYC edgy-chic. The classic gold is subtle, giving the accents a “for your eyes only” feel, but striking enough to get everyone talking. Shop the rest of their sunglasses on their website by clicking here.
