My Eye Brightening Trick

No matter how much sleep I get I always look tired. Pair that with an important interview or a date and people start to think I look disinterested. I almost wish I could have a sign that reads “This is just my face. It’s how it always looks. I’m not tired or mad or bored. It’s just my face.”

While I’ve tried lots of different things, like the cold spoon technique or Blaq eye masks (review on those coming soon!), I always end up looking like I need a cup of coffee and a nap about an hour after. Go figure. So instead of trying to fix the skin around my eyes, I decided to make it stand out by adding a little sparkle.

I do my normal concealer and foundation routine, adding some extra concealer in a shade lighter than my skin tone around my eyes, and then pop some thrive cosmetics brilliant eye brightener in Stella in the corners. The product is sheer and sparkly, allowing me to build it to the intensity I want. On a normal day I usually go for one swipe. The very pale nude is many shades lighter than my usual skin tone, and when popped directly into the corner of my eye it instantly brightens my eyes and makes me look a little more awake.

A lot of the reviews online express disappointment that the product isn’t full coverage on its own. I’d encourage you to think of it more like a highlighter. You wouldn’t use your highlight as concealer or foundation, so why are you doing that around your eyes? Instead of being used alone to cover up dark under eye circles the thrive brilliant eye brightener is meant to distract.

The best part about the product? I got it for a discounted price in my winter FabFitFun box. Usually $25, I got this product along with a handful of others for only $50. Boxes are usually a $200 value (!!!) but you only pay $50. Better yet, you can purchase through my FabFitFun link for $10 off your first box! Here’s the link: http://xo.fff.me/lIjDp

Lin-Manuel Miranda Hosts SNL

If you don’t know how big of a crush I have on Lin-Manuel Miranda by now, then, do you even read here? I had no idea who this guy was until my freshman year roommate Paige started talking about some musical named Hamilton. Paige and I are the same person, to put it simply. We like the same tv shows, books, movies, clothes, you name it. So, basically, we’re the greatest nerds this world has ever seen. And we love it.

I listened to Hamilton all the way through on the first go. I couldn’t put it down. I actually stayed up until 4:30 in the morning listening to a musical because I couldn’t put it down. I’m serious. (I’m also a nerd, but hey, beggars can’t be choosers.) I analyzed every piece of that musical as if it were an English assignment. There are so many little phrases and notations and repeats that go unnoticed until you replay the entire thing a few times round. It’s a work of literary art as well as musical art.

So naturally when I heard that he was going to be hosting SNL I girly-screamed, did a little dance, and immediately told Paige. I think we were both more excited about this one tv segment than the entire musical itself!

Here’s my favorite part:

Isn’t he just the greatest? It’s got me wanting to take acting classes all over again!

Twenty One Pilots Concert

Hello everyone! Me here. Just another weekly playlist that’s entirely not a playlist! Aren’t those the best? (don’t answer that…)

Anyways, let’s get right on down to business! Waaaaay back when, on August 6th, I saw Twenty One Pilots on their Emotional Roadshow tour. Social media, aka tumblr fangirls, claim the show to be “existential.” And while I do have a tumblr, I am not a fangirl. But I will say that they hit the nail on the head with this one. I’ve never been to a show where the singer crowd surfs in the equivalent of a human hamster ball, or one where the magic acts are commonplace.

These two could join the US Olympic gymnastics team given the amount of back flips I saw that Saturday night, not to mention the impressive flip off the piano. The physicality of the show is something I would’ve seen bands do in smaller venues. In the Infinity Arena in Duluth the impressive light displays and the audience of thousands the venue seems massive, but the touches of tumbling and aerobatics from Josh and Tyler the show became more personal.

Some of my favorite songs from the concert? None other than Migraine, Car Radio, Trees, The Judge, Heathens, Stressed Out, Hometown, and House of Gold.

A Playlist for the Week

Hey guys, me here. Sorry for not being the most talkative person this week. It’s recruitment week at my university and I’ve been rushing around trying to do half a million things at once! But Bid Day is tomorrow and I can’t even begin to describe how excited I am to meet the new members!!!! Hopefully I’ll be able to make a post all about Bid Day and how awesome my sorority members are later this week, but for now I’m running on about four hours of sleep and no caffeine.

Without further to do, here’s my playlist for this week! All the songs are from older movies about high school, the quintessential time period for “growing up.” I’d like to challenge that notion. I did most of my growing up in college. Particularly the first two months of freshman year. In high school you can joke around and figure out what you think you want to do with yourself in the long run, but in college you actually put your foot in the door and start becoming the person you want to be in the long run.

Sassy Coffee Cups – Because It’s Still Too Early For Talking

I don’t know about you but my mornings just aren’t the same without a cup of coffee. A word of caution though, don’t try to talk to me before I’ve finished at least half a cup; you might end up seeing a side of me that’s not to your liking!

Because I know I’m not the only one who doesn’t do much conversing in the mornings, here are some coffee cups that will do all your talking for you.

A Pioneer or a Prince?

How about both.

I distinctly remember car rides with my mom playing Raspberry Beret. When I got an iPod touch in eighth grade, Little Red Corvette was one of the first songs on there. Last Friday afternoon I walked into history class and stopped short at the sound of Cream playing through the Miller Learning Center speakers.

Prince, famously known for his “Minneapolis sound,” was found dead last Thursday, April 21. Since then fans have been paying tribute at Prince’s Paisley Park complex, as well as in downtown Minneapolis, the area where his synthesized pop and funk style came to be.

So without further ado, this week’s playlist goes out to an artist that will be dearly missed. Keep heaven rockin’, Prince.

How to Amazon

What do we even call people who are as addicted to Amazon as the new age college student? Amazonians? Amazoniacs? Nerds?

amazon-logo_transparent

Regardless of name, they’re doing something right. They’re hunting for bargains – and finding them. If the internet were a family, Etsy would be the entrepreneur child, you know, the kid with the lemonade stand that makes $300 each summer. People love them, they’re cute and cuddly, but a little expensive sometimes. eBay is the crazy grandma who buys all the kiddos shiny Christmas presents and all the parents wine, but somehow can never afford a hotel room. But Amazon, he’s trusty. Reliable. He’s good old Uncle Blankenship with his magic bag of goodies. Sort of like Santa, but with shipping and handling.

As zany as the internet is, Amazon doesn’t have too many curiosities. You won’t be able to find the crazy things wackos on eBay sell. But you will find some charismatic (or maybe I should just go with…interesting?) oddities on the online retailer. Here are a few sure to win your heart:

Ariel Grumpy Cat Pullover

51mewqgexsl-_ac_sy200_ Under the sea, or just under the weather, this grumpy cat – Little Mermaid pullover is purrrr-fect for anyone looking to get a laugh out of the two big fads of 2015.

Buy it here.

Bee Movie Script Hoodie

51rvohfoyl-_ac_aa160_ Yes, you read that correctly. This hoodie has the entire script of The Bee Movie on it. My boyfriend didn’t believe me, but things like this do exist (and he’s so glad they do). Don’t remember this movie? It’s about a bee who sues the human race for eating honey. It’s…uh…different.

You can buy the sweatshirt here and check out the movie here.

Drunken Unicorn Wine Rack

41rpctbwdl-_ac_aa160_ Who doesn’t need a unicorn drinking a bottle of wine? It gets even better when you realize it’s a wine rack. Now we know the real reason Voldemort drinking unicorn blood led him to living a half-life, he was drunk!

Buy it here.

Narwhal Tusk (Teaching Replica Quality)

“Yes, hi, I’d like to buy a narwhal tusk?…Mhm?…Oh, only replicas. Darn.”

For sale, believe it or not, here.

Caffeinated Lip Balm

3163jm692hl-_ac_ul160_sr160160_ You know you have a problem when you order this in the package deal off Amazon…caffeinated chapstick, lotion, and soap.

Buy it here.

Grass Pen

Product Details Perks: allergy friendly, doesn’t need watering, will help you actually get stuff done

Cons: doesn’t do the blade-of-glass-whistle thingy

Buy it here.

What are some of the wacky things you’ve found on Amazon? I’d love to hear!
